Burglar Shot After Telling Homeowner to Give Up His Gun

Manila, Arkansas – A man was shot on the 17th of September after he broke into a home located in Mississippi County.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Dale Cook, the homeowner told deputies he had been asleep at around 3 a.m. when he heard noise coming from inside his house.

After arming himself, the victim went to investigate. When he reached the living room, the homeowner encountered 47-year-old Charles Lancaster there. Since he did not know Lancaster, the homeowner asked him to leave.

But Lancaster ignored the homeowner, and his gun, and proceeded into the kitchen where he began making himself something to eat and drink.

The victim asked Lancaster to leave again, but instead of doing so, the suspect began to unplug the home television.

On the third request from the victim to depart, Lancaster reportedly turned and said:

“Give me that gun before you hurt yourself, old man.”

The homeowner then shot him. When law enforcement officers arrived, they found Lancaster across the street from the home he had invaded with a gunshot wound to his leg.

He was taken for treatment of his injuries to a hospital located in Jonesboro, then arrested for residential burglary. He is currently being held on $75,000 bond at the Mississippi County Detention Center.
